Eat your heart out, Channel 5....

Oh. My. God. SUCH big news. I'm dying here. We have a NEW APARTMENT!!!!

AAAAAHHHH!!!!!

It's like three blocks away from our old apartment, and the rent is absolutely staggering. But it's gorgeous, and sunny, and clean, with windows that work and a great kitchen and high ceilings and plumbing that works (presumably) and a patio out back we can grill on and and and....

We'll just not thing about the rent.

Magazine photographers, take note - you will no longer be able to exploit the picturesquely sordid confines of this hideous shit hole of a "loft" apartment for your bread and butter. Now you'll have to make me look sordid in my brand spanking new Loft Apartment! No quotes!!!!

Thank you. Thank you very much.

I know you probably hear this every damnday, but Julie, you're my HERO! and I wish you fame and fortune and beautiful apartments beyond your wildest dreams! (everyone I know is getting your book as a prezzie - that'll help, right?). I feel like we're kind of kindred spirits too because I have had a gi-normous crush on D.S. for YEARS. I've been totally vicariously thrilled by your encounters with him and only about 10% crazy jealous. Anyway, you're the tops and I wish I knew you for real. Congratulations on the apartment! First of all, congratulations on the new apartment. If half the things I read in Julie/Julia are true, moving out must feel like being the last of Moses' people pulling his soaked left foot out of the rapidly closing waters of the Red Sea: refreshing, yet stressful.

I may very well be the least likely member of your audience, Julie. Somehow I don't think mohawked single fathers with a tattoo of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu and a jolly roger down his entire left arm are exactly your target demographic. But who knows, right?

Anyway, having just breezed my way through your Julie/Julia offering, I can honestly say I have learned two important things:

1. French cuisine will never appeal to me in the slightest.

2. You most assuredly are cute.

Of course, I also learned that you have a very pleasant writing style that builds a connection between the reader and yourself that I've found to be absent in most memoirs.

If you made it this far looking for the presence of some sort of point, some snippet of wisdom to validate this comment from a random Dutch guy, then I have to disappoint you. In a rare enterprising and entirely non-procrastinating mood I felt inclined to leave a comment for you in your blog. That's life for you, go figure. ;)

I'd like to discuss the most important topic in this post.

Have you picked a grill yet? Is the patio big enough for a grill and a smoker?

If you are getting an honest to god charcoal burning, "propane is for pansies" grill, you can't beat the Weber 22.5" with the ash can. grill

If you think a smoker will take up too much room, think again! The Weber Smoky Mountain is awesome for travelling or tight spaces. It keeps a pretty even temperature and has plenty of grill space. schmoker

Congratulations! I must preface the following with the disclaimer that I'm really not a crazy stalker lady: You are well out of that place. (I used to take a bus that went in front of it, and your window was Right There...) My ghods, I couldn't have standed living on such a noisy street that long. Maspeth (our old 'hood) was bad enough, but LIC has like ten times as many buses and trucks. Especially the street you were on.

Yay, nice kitchen! Yay, grilling! I can't wait till it warms up enough to fire up ours. A bit too nippy right now.

Okay - so I made Lobster for the first time tonight for my boyfriend's birthday. It was well...interesting. Riding on the train with them and then sticking them in a pot of boiling water and then eating them...it's an experience!
So congrats on the apartment!!!
And congrats on the nomination!!

AHH, the way you described this apartment, I want to shift there immediately. I have been looking for an apartment to shift in, but for the last few days, I have paused my search as I have to look for a Coursework Help Online service and outsource my work to them. I think I will be done with it today and so then I can continue with my search for the apartment. I hope I find one which is as good as the one you described in the post.
